Gokyo Cho La Pass Trek tips

Trekkers are requested to follow a certain schedule to cover all the aspects of the Gokyo Cho La Pass Trek with the help of guides and porters to lead the way. Since the trek is at a certain height and cannot be done in a hurry, resting and sightseeing in Kathmandu after a few days of arrival is suggested. Also known as the Everest Circuit trek, Gokyo Cho La Pass trek requires patience and a leisure hike to truly enjoy the Himalayas. A short 35 min flight takes you to Lukla then places like Namche Bazaar, Gokyo Valley, Cho La Pass, and Kala Patthar come in the way before returning to Namche Bazaar again.

The beautiful tranquil Gokyo Lake is the starting of the wonderful experience that the Trek provides. Not to forget the Khumbu Valley that welcomes you with friendly Sherpa service and love. Even if ascending Everest is not possible, Kala Patthar allows you to closely view the authenticity of the world’s highest peak, Mt Everest. The famous monastery that is present at Tengboche is also worth visiting as it reflects the monk’s daily routine and the Sherpa culture. The major perk is the peaks like Mt. Amadablam, Mt. Thamserku, Mt. Kangana, Mt. Kwangde, Mt. Nuptse, etc that introduces you to the unbeatable charisma of Himalayas.

Arrival In Kathmandu (1338 M/ 4390 Ft)

A warm welcome to Kathmandu Tribhuvan International Airport! As you landing at the airport, line up for your visa process with one passport size photo and $25 for one week $40 for 15 days $100 for three months then go one flower down to claims your luggage after customs formalities. When you get out to the waiting terminal, you will meet our airport representative holding Peregrine Treks & Expedition Pvt. Ltd. Signboard with your name to greet you. You will then transfer to the hotel at Thamel driving around 20 to 25 minutes from the Airport. You can rest at the hotel to recover your legs or have free time to explore the Thamel market. You are free for your dinner with your guide and overnight at hotel.

Fly To Lukla ( 2800 M. 9184 Ft) And Trek To Phakding (2652 M./8700 Ft)

We will drive to you Kathmandu domestic airport for Lukla flight. After 32 minutes adventures flight of beautiful green hill and snow-capped mountain views, your arrival will be at Tenzing-Hillary Airport Lukla, from where you start your trek. We will meet our additional staff in Lukla and do some packing but you will enjoy with a cup of tea at the tea house or introduce with porters. Now start our trek descending on paved stone steps through the rhododendron forest to arrive Chaurikharka, head up to the Dudhkoshi valley enjoying with green hill views along your trekking route. We will cross some suspension bridge, observe white color painted stone, the main wall to arrive Phakding walking around 3 hours. Have dinner and overnight at lodge.

Trek To Namche Bazar (3440 M/11283 Ft)

After breakfast, we start our trek from Phakding crossing suspension bridge and will see the magnificent views of Mt. Thamserku (6608m/21675ft) from Bunker village where we suggest having some tea break. We trek again and cross the suspension bridge to arrive, Monjo, where there is Sagarmatha National Park Check Point, show your permit and walk down to Jorsalle for your lunch. You will be a little bit lazy after having lunch but you start your trek through the Dudhkoshi River, you will cross Hillary suspension bridge again. As you climb uphill to Namche, the superb view of Kwangde Peak, Kusum Kanguru Peak, Mt. Everest, Lhotse, Tawache and many of mountains greet us. Finally, we reach Namche Bazar after hard steep uphill walking. Namche Bajar is the hometown of Sherpa People where there are many tea houses, trekking shop, German bakery and post office.

Namche Bazar To Everest View Hotel And Return Back To Namche For Acclimatization

Today is acclimatization day in Namche. Early in the morning, you can walk up the Namche viewpoint to see the spectacular sunrise views up on the Mt. Everest, Amadablam, Thamserku, and more another mall snow-capped mountain and there is more possibility to be clear weather to see the mountain views. It is also suggested to hike up to Everest view hotel or Khumjung for your good acclimatization to go base camp without any risk and difficulty. Come back to the hotel and enjoy playing cards with your staffs for you good time pass.

Trek To Tengboche (3860 M)

After our breakfast, we have to climb some stone stairs to catch the narrow mountain highway which offers panoramic views of Thamserku, Kusum Kangaru, and Kangtega. The views of Amadablam, Everest, Lhotse, and Tawetse are opened from Sanasa after walking around 2 hours, then we will drink a cup of tea there enjoying mountain views, We then trek down through the rhododendron and Phir trees to come to the crossroad with one way leading to Gokyo lakes trek. After one and half hour of descending, we arrive at Phungi Thanks for lunch and another two hours of the climb to Tengboche is strenuous. When we arrive at Tengboche, you will enjoy with panoramic views of the snow giant and visiting Tengboche monastery then overnight at hotel.

Trek To Dingboche (4410 M)

Early in the morning, we will visit Tengboche monastery if you want and trek down to Deboche through the rhododendron forest and a further walk to Imja Khola valley to cross the suspension bridge then 2 hours climb uphill to Pangboche (3930m), a Sherpa village with the oldest monastery in this region. After one more hour, we will arrive at Somare and have lunch. Then, we trek uphill to Dingboche another two more strenuous hours.

Acclimatization day in Dingboche (5100 M)

Today is second acclimatization day in Dingboche so we will climb Nagarjuna (5100m) hill or go to Chukung valley and come back to the hotel. You will have good rest in the late afternoon but you can enjoy playing cards with your guide and porters and have a good dinner for tomorrow to store power for Everest Base camp and Cho La pass.

Trek To Lobuche (4910 M)

Trek along a broad valley floor to Dughla, passing the Trekkers Aid Post at Pheriche (4240 m), staffed by western volunteer doctors and supported by the Himalayan Rescue Association which offers treatment and consultation to trekkers. Continue up the valley, gaining altitude. Come out of the valley to descend to the yak pastures of Lobuche. Overnight at guesthouse, breakfast, lunch, and dinner included.

Trek To Everest Base Camp And Back To Gorekshep

After a short climb through meadows, look down on the Khumbu Glacier. Straight ahead is Kalapattar – the best vantage point to view the entire south face of Mt. Everest and the surrounding peaks. After a couple of hours, we will get at Gorekshep, and continue our journey to Everest Base camp. There is not much elevation gain, but there are a lot of ups and downs and, combined with altitude, this can be a tiring portion- but the journey is worth it. After approximately 3 hrs of hiking, you will arrive at Base Camp and enjoy views of the Khumbu Glacier and icefall, where Everest expeditions begin. Overnight at guesthouse, breakfast, lunch, and dinner included.

Climb Kalapattar (5545 M) And Return Back To Dzongla (4830)

The day starts with a hike up to Kalapattar (5545m/18188ft), the best viewpoint to witness Mt. Everest and the spectacular Himalayan range. Then trek back to Gorekshep for hot breakfast and then descend to Dzongla. Overnight at guesthouse, breakfast, lunch and dinner included.

Trek To Dragnak Or Thangna Via Crossing Cho La Pass (5420 M)

We begin the day by climbing to Chola crossing over and descending once more to Thanga. Overnight at guesthouse, breakfast, lunch and dinner included.

Trek To Gokyo Lake (4790)

We trek to Gokyo Lake crossing over Ngozumpa Glacier (the large glacier in the Himalayan 36 Kilometers in Length). Gokyo village stands by the third lake and Cho-Oyu Mountain as a backdrop sets an amazing spectacular sight at this juncture. After lunch, you may explore around the Lake, Dudh Pokhari. Overnight at guesthouse, breakfast, lunch and dinner included.

Climb Gokyo Ri (5483 M) And Trek To Dole

Gokyo Ri is the highlight of this trip. Early morning, we hike up to the Gokyo Ri (Gokyo Peak). Climbing to Gokyo Ri is obviously strenuous as it is steep up and takes about 3 to 4 hours to reach the top. But even from the trial scenery of Gokyo village on the edge of the third lake overlooked by Cholatse and the broad Ngozumpa Glacier are mind-blowing. We feel like we are surrounded by panoramic mountains like Kusum Kanguru, Thamserku, K 43, Kangtega, Taboche, Cholatse, Makalu, Lhotse, Nuptse, Everest, Changtse, and Pumori. The sight of sunrays kissing the Everest that towers over all surrounding peaks are unlike from Kalapattar (from Kalapattar Nuptse seems taller). Our Gokyo RI visit will be unforgettable lifetime memories. We trek down to Gokyo. Upon breakfast, we trek to down to Dole. Overnight at guesthouse, breakfast, lunch, and dinner included.

Trek down to Namche (3440m).

Descend to Phorste Tenga (3680m/1270ft) and complete steep climb to Mong- la Danda (4940m/16200ft), again we descend to Kyangjuma (3550m/11645ft) then easier trail to Namche. Overnight at guesthouse, breakfast, lunch, and dinner included.

Trek Back To Lukla

The trek continues along the Dudh Kosi River to the small mountain airstrip at Lukla where you will catch your return flight to Kathmandu. Overnight at guesthouse, breakfast, lunch, and dinner included.

Fly Back To Kathmandu

30-minutes amazing scenic flight back to Kathmandu. Overnight at hotel, breakfast included.
